The Assault on Tradition

Anything 'Hindu' is quickly denigrated in many ways, not only by many followers of the monotheistic religions, but also those who imagine and assert that a modern world, by which is often meant a Western-inspired world, can do without so-called primitive religion and cultural traditions. Lawyers (as well as more recently whole cohorts of diasporic Indian scholars)... have had specific reasons to argue for modernity.... Expand

Ramesh,

Go ahead and say what you want to say. Please do not hold back on my account.

Pallu and Ramesh,

If Zafar is stating his opinion, I am stating my opinion of his statement.

I explained the reasoning behind my statement. I have also explained why his statement is dishonest. If you want to argue about how the donations of dargah and mosque are used, let us have a discussion.

There is a movement taking shape to take back Hindu temples.

You can read an example in the earlier post in DR. Morales article.

Nothing-inside,
zafar is just stating his opinion.
BTW you feel so strongly about this whole issue.
Are you taking out march on YSR house asking him to hand over tirupati temple to private trust? no? How can I trust you then ?

">>> Nothing-Inside, how do you know that he didnt talk? How do you know that the sentiment is not true? "

If you take a minute and read the entire paragraph, you could have grasped the answer to your poser.

I was posing a series of questions of questions about his actions. After the questions, I explained why the statement is dishonest unless backed up by actions. Now it is for Zafar or your turn to answer the questions to make your point.

>>Current CEO of TTD is a hindu, brahmin at that !

Doesn't the title CEO mean that he is either a Vaishya or a Shudra?

>>> Thats was a good one Moornam !!!!

Zafar said, he would like to see the Dargah and Mosque funds be utilized for Science and tech education. This is such a dishonest statement. If that is his true sentiment, why did he not do any thing about? Did he ever make that argument to Muslim Clergy?

That is true, there are many attacks on Hinduism. For more info, read the last post by Rajiv in "Does Hinduism teach that all religions are same"'.

" Why do you feel people will indulge in corruption when in governemt service and suddenly become pious when in private management? "

May be you can tall us why is it that private industry corruption levels are so low compared to public sector or govt? While I do not have a survey available on the corruption levels, common sense tell us that corruption levels in private enterprises are not a business threat. Profit motive of the investors will make them more vigilent and find ways to snuff out corruption.

Can you bribe some one at INFOSYS to write the code faster? If customer needs such a service, they will give it to them but at a premium.

Your examples of improvements at TTD or other temples fall into the category of ameneties. While there is scope for so much more improvement in those areas, temples are not mere entertainment centers. Their purpose goes beyond being a facility to perform puja. Temples are the centers of Hindu religion. Religious discourse, education of the religious following, maintaining the great cultural and artistic traditions, and providing charity for those in difficulties are among the many other responsibilities of the temple. Temple donations allow those responsibilities to be carried out. Govt. neither has the will nor can it legally carry out these activities.

Govt. is currently transferring these funds into slush tax fund. Once it is in that pool, God knows(may be not) what happens to those funds. YSR in AP has the power to decide what to do with these funds? He is a follower of a non Hindu religion. How do you expect him to understand the nuances of the religious needs of Hindu population?

There is no other country in the world that would allow govt to run religious institutions. Even in fromer Soviet union and eastern block, orthodox Church was allowed to manage its own affairs.

Zafar said, he would like to see the Dargah and Mosque funds be utilized for Science and tech education. This is such a dishonest statement. If that is his true sentiment, why did he not do any thing about? Did he ever make that argument to Muslim Clergy? Did he ever write a letter to a national newspaper(he is prolific writer and a good one at that) to generate interest among muslims? He pontificates on this forum because he knows his idea is going nowhere. He can freely toss it into the ring and look like a progressive and make a case for Hindu Temple money to be used for secular purposes. I will take his word seriously only when he or his religious cohorts have done something concrete in this regard.
